Play M4B audiobooks on iPhone and Android

M4B is the usual format of audiobooks bought DRM-free or ripped from CDs: one file per book, with the chapters and the cover inside. Nightjar plays it directly and keeps both.

Chapters and cover, as the file has them

Nightjar reads the chapter list and the cover embedded in the M4B. Jump between chapters, set bookmarks, change the playback speed or set a sleep timer that stops at the end of the chapter; the position in every book is remembered.

Getting an M4B onto your phone

On iPhone, open it with Nightjar from the Files app, share it from another app or AirDrop it, or drop it into the Nightjar folder in Finder on your Mac. On Android, open it from your file manager or share it from another app. On both, you can send it from a computer over Wi-Fi or paste a direct link to a file of your own.

No syncing from a computer

Nightjar opens the file where it already is — on the phone, in Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive, or on a WebDAV server — so there is nothing to sync first.

Other formats

MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV and FLAC play directly too, and a folder of MP3 chapters becomes one book. MKA and MKV are repacked on the device without re-encoding. DRM-protected files, including Audible AA and AAX, are not supported.

Free for files on your phone

Playing M4B files from the phone, every way of importing them and Wi-Fi transfer are free. Streaming from cloud storage and downloading from it are part of Nightjar Pro.
